I think I have a new favorite place to go when I’m feeling sad…

“It just feels good”
This is what my kiddo says about volunteering. While there are many different ways to volunteer and give back to the community, there aren’t too many things you can do with a young kiddo. This last summer we started volunteering at the local animal shelter. We do what’s considered “enrichment” (essentially, we play with the animals). It’s fun and easy, and it does feel good. We also fostered 10 kittens over a 6 month period (and managed to adopt only 2!). Lately we go to the shelter on the weekends and play with animals and take dogs for walks. Now that it’s getting to be puppy and kitten season, there are plenty of cute little cuddly babies that need socializing and we’re happy to help!
I’ve been singing Alouette with the kiddo lately but just looked up the translation, yikes! I didn’t realize it was about plucking a lark. I guess that’s what I get for learning spanish instead of French. Maybe we’ll stick with Frère Jacques and La Cucaracha (although I may need to be selective about which translation I tell her).
And, speaking of cockroaches, we’ve been enjoying this book lately
Blogging about science at a small liberal arts college, family balance (ha!) and living with a pacemaker. Not in that order.
